In 2013, together with Mark Jukes, Richard founded Elbrus Partners, a leading London Financial Services Executive Search boutique. In June 2023, Elbrus Partners combined with Signium. Richard is a key partner in Signium’s Financial Services Practice.
Areas in which he has operated on both the Sell Side and Buy Side include: Equities and Equity Derivatives globally (Research, Sales and Trading), Equity and Debt Capital Markets, Corporate Advisory / Broking including M&A as well as Risk and Compliance.
Prior to Elbrus, Richard was Head of Equities at Mizuho Securities in Europe from 2006 as MD and Member of the Executive, Risk and IT Steering Committees. He also ran the Fixed Income Sales and Trading distribution business for a period.
His City career began in 1980 and he had various operations and junior trading roles before joining BZW in 1986 as a Senior Convertible Bond and Warrant Trader. He was later appointed as their Tokyo based Joint Head of Japanese Equities.
In 1993 Nomura London headhunted Richard for a sell-side role but quickly moved him across to run their proprietary Japanese Convertible Bond portfolio. He then spent seven years at ING Barings in London and Tokyo initially as Head of Japanese Equity and Derivative Trading, then Global Head of Convertible Bonds and finally Head of Japanese Equities.
In 2003 he moved to Sydney to work as an advisor to the Susquehanna Investment Group and was then part of an amicable team move to Evolution Capital Management to launch an Asian Multi-Strategy Hedge Fund, with assets growing to over $1billion in around one year.
Richard passed both of the Institute of Director’s Certificate and Diploma examinations with Distinctions and is a qualified Executive Coach following study at Henley Business School. Away from work Richard spends a considerable amount of time (and too much money) with his large family of four adult children and six grandchildren.
